Ten Reasons to Graduate from Riverbend Academy

Logic/Rhetoric School Schedule | Nuntius | Check Assignments

We are now well into the season of enrolling for the 2009-2010 school year. Choosing how to educate our children is one of the most important decisions that we as parents make. I am writing this article to encourage students to want to be trained at Riverbend Academy and to encourage parents to strongly consider making Riverbend the choice for their student(s).

Deuteronomy 6 and Ephesians 6 make clear that it is each father and mothers responsibility to educate their children, with the father as the leader. This can be done faithfully (or poorly) regardless of the methods chosen. There is Christian liberty for parents to make this choice, and this article is not meant as a judgment against anyone who does not choose Riverbend Academy. We fully respect each parents responsibility before God for their own children.

Riverbend Academy is the right choice for many parents, and I am writing to encourage all to strongly consider enrolling your student(s) for next school year. Before I list those items in support of Riverbend Academy, let me first mention some of our limitations. In fact, lets summarize them into one. Being new and small, Riverbend Academy cannot yet offer the level of extracurricular activities that government schools often do. These include: competitive sports, band and chorus, drama, and other such programs. First, my response is as parents we need to weigh out if these things are really more important than the educational and spiritual benefits of having your student enrolled in Riverbend Academy. Second, we are committed to starting and developing a band, choral, drama and competitive sports programs. We will not have these on a large scale at first, but Lord willing we will have them, and they will grow!

Now, let me offer reasons in favor of attending Riverbend Academy. I have selected only ten and will call them Ten Reasons to Graduate from Riverbend Academy:

  1. You can have an exceptional transcript with which to apply to a college/university. We are committed to excellence, including in academics, and our graduation requirements are as strong or stronger than the best public school programs in all required areas such as English, mathematics and sciences. In addition, our requirements include Latin, Logic, Rhetoric, Theology and the reading of many of the greatest books throughout history. Finally, all of this is taught with a biblical worldview.
  2. You can attain a high level of mastery in math and the sciences, both in knowledge and the ability to think.
  3. You can attain a working knowledge of Latin and New Testament Greek. This knowledge will improve your analytical skills, greatly enhance your understanding of English and ease the learning of many modern languages.
  4. You will have read and gained understanding in many of the greatest books ever written and through these have thoroughly studied history, literature and theology.
  5. You will have been mentored by many Christian, loving, well-trained and dedicated teachers in very reasonably sized classrooms.
  6. You can attain the ability to think well, including how to define terms, how to pro-perly reason and construct legitmate arguments and how to recognize the fallacies in the arguments of others.
  7. You can attain the ability to communicate effectively, in both writing and speaking with clarity and persuasive-ness.
  8. You can attain a love for learning and be equipped with the tools for learning through our classical approach.
  9. You can attain a thoroughly biblical, Christ-centered worldview through training and instruction in the Bible and theology and through the application of biblical truth in all areas of study and school life. We live in a world that is diametrically opposed to what God reveals in His World, the Bible. Lord willing, you will view everything through Gods Word, able to discern truth from error and right from wrong.
  10. You can develop integrity of heart to truly think and live biblically as our well-structured, disciplined and gracious environment encourages self-control, dil-gence and character development by Gods grade in Christ. Our vision is that as a graduate you will be contending for the faith throughout your life.
