Christ and the Presidential Election
The 2016 Presidential election process has begun! Trump, Cruz, Rubio…Clinton, Sanders… - Who is the right choice? Isis, Immigration, Healthcare, Economy, Taxes, Government Size… ...
Keep ReadingI actually thought at the time Hannah was so wise leaving Samuel at the temple to grow up serving the Lord. At times of helplessness, I wondered what pastor I could leave him with to raise him. Surely one of them would take him to get past this stage, right? It worked out for Hannah and most assuredly the pastors’ wives were infinitely wiser than I; after all, they all had at least 3 kids a piece! ...
Our nation recently celebrated the anniversary of the infamous 9/11 attacks on our country. I was pregnant with our first child. I wondered, “Into what kind world would I bring my child? What would our country be like? Would there be any good? How evil would it become? Would this type of atrocity be commonplace? What if I couldn’t keep him/her safe? What if our country was overrun by terrorists, and they tortured us for our faith? What if…?”…BUT GOD! ...
We certainly desire the best for our children and we must reason through what ‘best’ looks like; particularly for the development of the whole child. That requires parents to come to terms with their own personal paradigm concerning who and what their child is in their whole person. Does our view of humanity consist of our children simply being a fortuitous assembling of cell structures that are in a slow dance with entropy and waiting for decomposition, or do we view our children as an imprint of the living God; made in His image? ...
Our children are born in sin as we were. Thus, they will not naturally honor and obey us as their parents. We must teach and train them to do so by God’s grace, and also teach and train them to love, honor and obey God first; and foremost and to love their neighbor as themselves and to recognize the sin in their hearts and their need of the Savior (Matt. 5-7; Gal. 3:19-24; Rom 3:9-20; etc.). ...
I certainly didn’t appreciate my education at the time. Like most teenagers, I believed I knew better, that I could’ve withstood the peer pressure from the public school my parents sacrificed for me to avoid. Like most teenagers, I believed a Christian education wouldn’t serve me well in the real world. I believed attending a small school would make me lost and inept at the very large public high school that followed. I believed attending class with only 17 other students would make it impossible to relate to my peers and thus make me socially awkward....
Since ancient times, the study of history has primarily been an exercise in reading and writing. This is truer now than ever before. Every year publishers churn out new history books, ranging from well-written but poorly researched popular bestsellers to well-researched but poorly written scholarly histories. If only there were some way to combine the best of both worlds, the accuracy of academic history with the readability of popular history!...
A guaranteed way to start any teacher talking is to ask him or her about the proper role of technology in the classroom. In many public school districts...
Things sure seem to be taking a turn for the worse. That’s common sentiment for many Americans, and rightfully so. With the fluctuating stock market, frequent political stand-stills, the increasing national deficit, recent struggles with unemployment, and the ever-present threat of terrorism, it is easy to understand the frustration and concern that has developed when considering the future of a nation. For the Christian, keenly aware of the devaluing of human life and biblical convictions in a nation which was once a beneficiary of profound spiritual renewal, the era in which we live appears to present a bleak progression....
I had not heard of a classical education before but it intrigued me deeply. Terms such as trivium were new. I vaguely recalled its stages from my educational psychology class; however, when my professor taught it, she dismissed it as archaic. I had no idea it was still around, a successful and viable educational methodology, and right under my nose! My husband and I then determined to make whatever sacrifices were necessary to ensure our children would attend Riverbend Academy....
Throughout the Biblical record, I am struck by a specific and particular promise from God, to each successive generation, and given to his covenant people; those who will be called in their appointed time to salvation. Regardless of the circumstances that will face each new generation passing over the stage of providence, God promises to call out and preserve a ‘remnant’ of the faithful to carry the gospel message to the next generation....
